Balanced matches, gameplay improvements, and the role of the community in the upcoming 24/7 Closed Alpha
Titan Forge Games revealed a completely new “MOBA Specific Matchmaking” system coming to SMITE 2. Players will experience more balanced and enjoyable gameplay shortly after the game enters its 24/7 Closed Alpha phase on August 27.
SMITE 2 – Desk Dive: Matchmaking
“SMITE 2’s matchmaking system has been rebuilt from the ground up, and looks to incorporate 10 years of research and feedback to make a system that is specifically designed for SMITE.” – says Max Johnson, Data Analyst at Titan Forge Games. – “In SMITE, players are tracked by a single skill rating, but this can be quite limiting. SMITE players are complex, and perform better on different gods and when playing different roles.”
The new “MOBA Specific Matchmaking” system aims to track the skill level of SMITE 2 players in a multi-dimensional fashion, to more accurately capture how skilled a player is. Instead of using a single rank number, this innovative approach will take into consideration players’ roles and their performance on these roles. That information will then be used to create matches that are not only more equal, but also achieve the main goal of being more fun.
The revamped matchmaking system highlights Titan Forge Games’ commitment to developing SMITE 2 alongside its community. In the recent Deep Dive video dedicated to bug reporting, the Q&A team emphasised their focus on player feedback. Particularly, one of the major concerns they received was that minions just didn’t feel quite right. As a result, players will now notice significant changes made to minion positioning and behaviour.
SMITE 2 will launch in 24/7 closed alpha on August 27. It will feature improved graphics, refined Gods gameplay, as well as a brand new God, Mordred, joining the Arthurian pantheon.
